A Louisiana activist who founded an African-American museum was found dead in the trunk of a car.

The body of 75-year-old Sadie Roberts-Joseph was discovered Friday, according to Baton Rouge Police Department officials.

Investigators said Saturday they are probing the case & seeking suspects.

In 2001, Roberts-Joseph founded the Odell S. Williams Now & Then African-American Museum, reported TV station WAFB.

Authorities would not disclose how her remains, which were located about three miles away from her home, were discovered. The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office is expected to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

“Ms. Sadie was a tireless advocate of peace in the community. We had opportunities to work with her on so many levels,” wrote the Baton Rouge Police Department in a Facebook posting.

"From assisting with her bicycle giveaway at the African-American museum to working with the organization she started called (Community Against Drugs & Violence), Ms. Sadie is a treasure to our community. She will be missed by (the police department) & her loss will be felt in the community she served.

According to station WFAA, Roberts-Joseph also organized the annual Juneteenth festival at the museum, commemorating the June 19, 1865, date when Union soldiers delivered news to Southern slaves that Abraham Lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
