Bittersweet… Toronto’s Casey Wins NBA Coach of the Year!!!
First name Tom, Last name Foolery... And I'm Everybody's Uncle!
Especially this NBA coach… Dwane Casey
Dwane Casey, head coach of Toronto Raptors, was announced Coach of the Year by the National Basketball Coaches Association. His crowning comes two days after Toronto was swept from the playoffs by LeBron & the Cavaliers.
Casey led the Raptors to a franchise record 59 wins & entered the playoffs as the top seed in the Eastern Conference. However, he is certainly in the hot seat. The Raptors were the first #1 seed to get swept in the second round of the playoffs. They have also been eliminated by the Cavaliers 3 years in a row. Seems the team may have to fire one of the best NBA coaches in the league to improve their chances of postseason success.
The news hits The North with a little irony considering rumors of Casey’s firing began swirling throughout Canada following their swift playoff exit. Many believe Dwane may have underachieved. Speculations about his immediate future with the team still looms. Although he has done great things for the Raptors, many think major changes should occur. These changes may ultimately lead to the NBA’s Coach of the Year getting ousted.
If Casey does get fired, he will not be the first NBA COY to get demoted. Both Mike Budenholzer, former coach of Atlanta Hawks, & George Karl, former coach of Denver Nuggets, were fired the same season they won the prestigious award.
Bittersweet!
