Nerlens Noel Makes $70 Million Dollar Error!!!
First name Tom, Last name Foolery... And I'm Everybody's Uncle!
Even this guy… Nerlens Noel.
Know yourself, know your worth – is the age old adage NBA players live by when it comes to contract negotiations. In most instances, the player has proven he is worth the HUGE payday his agent is holding out for or seeking.
In the case of Noels, somehow, some way, he managed to commit a costly turnover to the tune of $70 million dollars. Once labeled the savior of Philadelphia 76ers, the 2013 lottery pick has not quite lived up to his hype, mainly because he's been injury prone & lost in a rotation of the 76ers crowded, talented front court.
This past summer, Dallas Mavericks were willing to take a gamble on Noels to pair him with future Hall of Fame Dirk Nowitzki. Dallas was the perfect place for Nerlens to excel & prove he could be the focal part of an offense. Mark Cuban offered the unproven big man a lucrative contract of $70 million for four years of service.
Eyeing the 2018 summer free agent market, Nerlens believed he could swindle more from another organization. Thus, he elected to bet on himself & declined the four year deal. Instead he settled for one year $4.1 million.
YUGE mistake!
Since signing with the Mavericks, he's all but solidified another minimum contract during the upcoming off-season. Noel has not lived up to his potential, fallen out of rotation & grace with the team & recently became injured – AGAIN.
Somewhere Greg Oden is shaking his head with disappointment.
